The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has set October 8, 2026, as the date to hear Senegal’s appeal against the ruling that stripped the nation of its 2025 AFCON title, www.aclsports.com reports.
The hearing will take place at CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, more than six months after the appeal was officially lodged.
It will be recalled that Senegal were initially crowned champions after beating hosts Morocco after extra time in the AFCON final back in January. But in March, CAF’s Disciplinary Board declared that Senegal had forfeited the final, awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory and recognising the Atlas Lions as the official winners of AFCON 2025.
The ruling sparked widespread debate across African football, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding the decision and its impact on what has become one of the most controversial AFCON finals in recent history.
The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) responded by filing an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on March 25, urging the independent tribunal to overturn CAF’s decision, set aside the forfeiture ruling, and restore Senegal as the rightful winners of the 2025 AFCON.
CAS confirmed on Friday that the hearing will be held behind closed doors after none of the parties requested a public hearing. In addition, CAS also indicated that it cannot yet indicate when a final verdict will be issued.
Once the hearing concludes, the three-member panel will commence deliberations and issue its written verdict at a later date.
