Super Eagles duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Victor Osimhen have been nominated for the CAFAwards2019 Player of the Year Award.

Ndidi and Osimhen led 28 others, which include former Super Eagles forward, Odion Ighalo, in the list that was released earlier on Sunday.

Ndidi makes the list thanks to his impressive performances for club and country in 2019, especially in the AFCON2019 where he helped the Super Eagles to a third-place finish.

Osimhen’s excellent display at LOSC Lille earned him a spot as a nominee in the Player of the Year category.

Another Nigerian on the list is Ighalo, the former Super Eagles striker who finished the AFCON2019 in Egypt as the overall top scorer.

Other notable names on the list are Mohamed Salah of Egypt and Liverpool, his club teammate and Senegal international, Sadio Mane and Nicholas Pepe of Arsenal and Ivory Coast.

In terms of number of nominees, African Champions, Algeria comes top with four players listed, while the duo of Morocco and Nigeria are next with three nominees each.

Elsewhere, Osimhen was also listed as a nominee in the Young Player of the Year category alongside Super Eagles teammate, Samuel Chukwueze.

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr was also listed as one of nine nominees for Coach of the Year, with former Super Falcons boss, Thomas Dennerby, listed in the same category in the Women’s.

In the Women’s category, Asisat Oshoala, Nnadozie Chiamaka and Uchenna Kalu fly Nigeria’s flag in the Women’s Player of the Year award.

Both Super Eagles and Super Falcons are also in the running for the National team of the year in both the Men’s and Women’s categories of the awards.

The CAF2019Awards, which will be the 28th edition, is billed to hold on January 7, 2020 at the Citadel Azure, Hurghada, Egypt.
