CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has reaffirmed that Morocco will host the 2026 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON), www.aclsports.com reports.

Speaking after a CAF Executive Committee meeting on Friday, Motsepe confirmed that the tournament, scheduled from 17 March to 3 April 2026, will proceed as planned.

Addressing recent uncertainty, following reports that Morocco might reconsider hosting after the events surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with South Africa mentioned as a potential replacement — Motsepe dismissed the rumours, stressing that both the venue and timeline remain unchanged.

“There are still many countries that are interested,” Motsepe said. “We still have engagements with Morocco because some of the other countries want to host it, but they want the date changed. We can’t change the date because it’s one of the qualifiers for the Women’s World Cup.”

“The WAFCON continues; it’s going to be successful, and we will make sure it takes place within the window,” he added.

The confirmation brings clarity for participating teams, allowing preparations to continue without uncertainty.

For African champions Nigeria’s Super Falcons, who will be preparing for the tournament by participating in the West African Football Union (WAFU) B Four-Nation Tournament in Abidjan, they will compete alongside hosts Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and Burkina Faso, who replaced Ghana due to their involvement in the Pink Ladies Cup in the UAE.

The four semi-finalists of WAFCON will qualify automatically for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, while the four losing quarter-finalists will contest two spots in the Inter-Confederation Play-offs.
