Bukola Olopade: Ogun to become home of marathon races

The CEO of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Bukola Olopade said Ogun state will soon become the home of marathon races in Nigeria.

The former Ogun state commissioner said the state in less than one month hosted two marathon races adding that no other state in the country has successfully done it.

Olopade revealed that there are plans for the state to host more marathon races in 2020.

He said, “I am confidence that Ogun state will become the home of marathon in Nigeria. If you look at Ogun state, you will see that we possess some of the finest marathon athletes in Nigeria and we also want to create an enabling environment for them to thrive.

“In less than one month, Ogun state hosted two marathon races namely; JAC motors 10 kilometer race where the winner went home with $5,000 and Valuejet IAU African Championship tagged Remo 2019 where the winner went home with $2,000. There are plans underway to organise more marathon races in Ogun state

He thanked the Ogun State Governor, Prince Abiodun for the acceptance of marathon races in the South West state.

He said, “I want to thank the governor of Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his dogged approach towards marathon in the state, the sponsors and the runners at the event. The people of Ogun state came out in their numbers to cheer the athletes which is a good one”.

He further said, “The reason for the success is strategic planning. We started planning the marathon October 2018 and my current team has been very supportive during this period”.
