Beyond Limits Football Academy of Nigeria is set for its title defence in this year’s Gothia Cup tournament in Sweden, www.aclsports.com reports.
Following the side’s successful campaign at the 50th edition of the tournament last year, where the TCC League champions lifted the Gothia Puma Trophy, the boys will return to Gothenburg for their fourth consecutive appearance.
The 51st edition of the prestigious international youth tournament will take place in Gothenburg, Sweden, from 13 to 19 July 2026.
The tournament now has a new format, and in the U17 category where BLFA will be featuring, the traditional group stage has been replaced by a league phase.
The competition will feature 24 teams from across the world, with each side playing four matches during the league phase. At the end of these fixtures, the top four teams will advance directly to the semi-finals, while the remaining 20 teams will compete in placement matches.
‘We want to create matches that truly matter from start to finish. We are creating a better experience for both spectators and participants – Martin Laanemets, Gothia Cup competition manager.
The change introduces a different challenge, with every result playing an important role in determining the final league standings.
In the league phase, the defending champions will face Cantolao AD of Peru, IF Brommapojkarna and IFK Göteborg of Sweden, and Sudeva Delhi FC of India.
Beyond Limits have intensified preparations for the Gothia Cup tournament over the past few weeks and are expected to leave depart Nigeria for Sweden on Saturday.
