AWCON Qualifiers: Oshoala leads 19 others to Gambia

Nigeria’s Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons, will depart Nigeria on Monday to Banjul, capital of Gambia for the first leg of their 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against the Gambia Senior Women National Team, the Scorpions.

Falcons head coach, Thomas Dennerby named 20 players to prosecute the double header game on June 6 in Gambia while the return leg will take place at the Agege Stadium, Lagos on June 11.

Asisat Oshoala leads 12 foreign pros and 7 home based players for the last qualifying round of the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana from November 17- December 1.

The Scorpions defeated Burkina Faso in the first round as defending champions Nigeria drew bye. The Falcons’ delegation arrived Lagos on Sunday night from Abuja where they will board an Air Peace aircraft to Banjul.

The winners of the second round of matches, to be played from June 4-12 will qualify for the AWCON 2018 alongside host Ghana.

AWCON 2018 doubles as the African qualifiers for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France. The top three nations will qualify for the World Cup.
