World record holder Tobi Amusan, clocked 12.38 seconds to finish second in a fiercely contested women’s 100m hurdles at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, www.aclsports.com reports.

Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent stormed to victory with a world-leading 12.32 seconds, while American Kendra Harrison placed third in 12.50 seconds.

It was a high-calibre field featuring some of the world’s best, including Olympic champion Masai Russell, who finished fourth in 12.50s, and 2023 world champion Danielle Williams, who came in fifth with a season-best 12.51s.

Despite missing out on the top spot, Amusan’s performance showed she remains a formidable contender as she builds momentum ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Her consistency throughout the season has been impressive, marked by multiple podium finishes across the Diamond League circuit.

Amusan’s resilience and steady return to form continue to draw attention, especially after navigating challenges earlier in the year.

There was drama in the race as USA’s Tia Jones did not finish, following a fall midway through, a stark reminder of the fine margins in sprint hurdling.

Off the track, Amusan also debuted a bold new look, appearing with a shaved head, a confident expression of her renewed focus and individuality.

Amusan remains one of Nigeria’s brightest medal prospects, and her eyes are firmly set on reclaiming her world title in Tokyo.

With the global athletics season heating up, the message from Eugene is clear: Tobi Amusan is firmly back in the mix.
