African Games champion, Obiageri Amaechi, produced the performance of her career in Ramona, Oklahoma, unleashing a massive Personal Best of 64.80m to win the women’s Discus at the Oklahoma Throws Series, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Nigerian star shattered her previous best by almost two metres, a breakthrough effort that also comfortably sailed past the World Championship qualifying mark of 64.50m.
With this throw, Amaechi punched her ticket to the World Championships in Tokyo next month, climbing to second on the African all-time list, trailing only compatriot Chioma Onyekwere-Lyons, who still holds the continental record at 64.96m.
Her latest achievement underlines the steady rise of Nigerian women in the throws, where Amaechi and Onyekwere-Lyons continue to set new benchmarks. Having secured her spot on the plane to Tokyo, Amaechi will head into the global stage brimming with confidence and momentum.
