Goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi was the hero as defending champions Rivers Angels romped into the last four of the AITEO Cup on Sunday night after a penalty shoot-out victory over Edo Queens in Benin City.

Both quarter final legs ended goalless in Port Harcourt last Wednesday and Benin City on Sunday leaving the tie to be decided on penalties.

Super Falcons goalkeeper Oluehi was at his imperious best, saving the first three spot kicks of the hosts while Ifeoma Ikenokwalu, Gladys Akpa and Evelyn Nwabuoku converted their kicks for Angels.

Edwin Okon’s Rivers Angels will now face the team they defeated in last year’s final, Bayelsa Queens in a two-legged semi-final this week, the first leg billed for the Nembe Stadium while Angels will host the return leg in Port Harcourt.

Men’s game

With three semi-finalists decided as at Sunday morning in the Men’s AITEO Cup, Akwa United trounced Nationwide League One side Katsina United Feeders 7-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final clash decided at the training pitch of the Nest of Champions in Uyo.

Still without five of their international stars at the WAFU Cup of Nations, United sure did not miss them as they raced on to a 4-0 lead at half time before adding three in the second half.

Striker Christian Pyagbara netted four times while there were also goals for Musa Newman, Kodjovi Dadzie and Michael Ibe Okoro.

The second leg encounter is expected to hold on Wednesday at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina with the winners facing Sunshine Stars in the semi-final.
