Africa’s football governing body, CAF, has stated that it has begun an investigation into multiple incidents in the quarterfinal game between Algeria and Nigeria in Marrakesh on Saturday, www.aclsports.com reports.

It will be recalled that the Super Eagles claimed a 2-0 win in that encounter to book their place in the last four. Meanwhile, multiple incidents happened during and after the match, and CAF has now decided to look into it.

Disgusting and unprofessional behavior. 😡

No matter the result, attacking anyone on the pitch is unacceptable.

This is a dark moment for African football.

“CAF has collected recent match reports and video evidence indicating potentially unacceptable behaviour from some players and officials and has opened an investigation into match incidents during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 quarter-final fixtures between Cameroon and Morocco, as well as Algeria and Nigeria,” reads the CAF statement on Monday.

“CAF has referred the matters to the Disciplinary Board for investigation and has called for appropriate action to be taken if the identified persons were to be found guilty of any wrongdoing.

CAF also confirmed that they are also reviewing the footage of the incident involving the members of the media in the mixed zone area after the game.

”CAF is also reviewing footage of an incident involving members of the media who allegedly misbehaved in the mixed zone area.

”CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour which occurs during matches, especially those targeting the refereeing team or match organizers. Appropriate actions will be sought against anyone whose behaviour is not consistent with professional conduct at CAF events,” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will arrive Rabat on Monday afternoon to begin preparations for the blockbuster clash with the Atlas Lions of Morocco on Wednesday.
