An ex-footballer Abidemi Andero based in London has donated food items to some Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) clubs through an NGO, Save Women Football Foundation (SWOFF).

The former defensive midfielder who played for Flying Babes and Awori United of Lagos, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and Fulham said that everyone can’t be in a top position to effect change in women’s football in Nigeria but can contribute their quota the little way they can and that’s why she is partnering with SWOFF to contribute to the welfare of clubs in the NWPL.

“I believe the situation of women’s football in Nigeria will not get better until those of us who have played the game before take it as a duty to contribute to its growth. There is nobody from anywhere that will come and save women’s football for us, we are the ones to save it and that’s why I have decided to partner with SWOFF to contribute to the welfare of players of NWPL clubs. I want to use this opportunity to encourage fellow ex-footballers both in diaspora and within Nigeria to see the need to partner SWOFF and NWPL in order to ensure that the league continues to improve and welfare of the players are taken care of.”

While appreciating the kind gesture of Abidemi Andero, the Chairman of SWOFF, Hon. Moses Bako said he is grateful for the kind gesture from the former midfielder who played under a British Council Team (CATS) in Surulere Lagos. He said teams have been identified across the nation who has welfare problems due to long delay of salary payment, bonuses and the donations will be distributed accordingly.

“I really want to appreciate Abidemi Andero for believing in SWOFF and partnering with us to touch the lives of NWPL players. It has always been the heartbeat of SWOFF to ensure that the welfare of players is well taken care of. We have identified teams across the nation with welfare problems due to long delay of salary payment and bonuses and the donations will be distributed to the various clubs accordingly.”
