FIBA World Cup Qualifiers: D’Tigers blow out Rwanda

Nigeria senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers demolished their Rwandan opponents 108-53 in their second Group B game of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers at the Palais Des Sports Salamatou Maiga Arena in Mali.

Michael Efevberha continued from where he left off on Friday as he led four other players on double figures. Efevberha scored a game high 16 points, Talib Zanna had 14 points while Obi Emegano, Ike Diogu and Michael Ojo all contributed 13, 12 and 10 points respectively.

D’Tigers wasted no time to set the tone of the game with 31-13 points at the end of the first quarter. It got worse for Rwanda as they trailed by 44 points at the end of the third quarter.

Top perfomers for Rwanda were Elie Kaje (15), Kami Kabange (10) and Kenneth Gasana (10) while Kaje added 5 rebounds to go with it.

Rwandans were outclassed in all areas of the game and couldn’t keep up with the defensive approach of the D’Tigers. They were out-rebounded 17-37 in total and couldn’t hold their own defensively 13-28. From the 3 point line, Rwandans made 12.5% against Nigeria’s 42.86% .

The 2015 FIBA Afrobasket champions who lead their group with a 2-0 record,  will next play against host Mali on Sunday in their third game of the first round of qualifiers at 7pm local time
