Ghana Premier League side Inter Allies have announced the signing of Super Eagles midfielder Afeez Aremu from Nigerian academy side Westerlo Football Academy.
Aremu, 19, was an integral part of Nigerian Cup champions Akwa United in the past football season, making over 30 league appearances as a defensive midfielder for the team based in Southern Nigeria. “We’re pleased to announce that we have reached agreement with Nigerian side Westerlo Football Academy for the transfer of Afeez Aremu Olalekan.

“Becoming the third signing ahead of the new season, Aremu arrived in the country earlier this week and started training with the ‘Eleven Is To One’,” the Ghanaian club wrote on their website on Wednesday evening.

Aremu who featured in Akwa’s AITEO Cup final victory in Lagos will play under Kenichi Yatshuasi, their new manager who had a very brief, tumultuous stint with Nigerian club FC Ifeanyiubah last December.

“I am excited to be signing for a good club such as Inter Allies. I am looking forward to working with the new coach and the players. I hope to do my best and exhibit my quality to help the team,” the former Rivers United midfielder was quoted as telling the club’s website.

The new Ghana Premier League season will not commence until at least after next year’s African Nations Championships and it remains to be seen if Aremu who has “started training” with the Ghanaian club will still be available to play for Nigeria in Morocco.
