Nigeria para powerlifters have advocated for the need to urgently call the lifters to camp for preparations ahead of the forthcoming 2017 World Para Powerlifting Championships scheduled for Mexico.

The World Para Powerlifting Championships will run from December 2 to 8. The 2017 Para Sport Festival was postponed due to an earthquake near Mexico City on September 19.

Innocent Nnamdi told aclsports.com that the team must begin one month preparation ahead of the competition. He equally urged the federal ministry of sports to get the national team ready for the competition.

Para Weightlifters in training

“We expect that lifters should have been in camp already ahead of the competition. We also expect that things should not be done in a hurry to get lifters mentally ready. But as we speak, we don’t know whether the camp is going to be called”.

Besides Innocent, World Record holder, Paul Kehinde noted that the lifters have been training in their various base. “As the leading champions, we should have begun preparations earlier in October, where the team would have the opportunity to blend properly with the coaches.

“It is sad, we have to go through this kind of situation again, we hope the national team would not be affected by the lack of national camping,” Kehinde said.
