Access Bank increases prize money for Lagos City Marathon 2018; introduces family fun race

With over 100,000 athletes expected from different countries, the third edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon will hold on February 10th, 2018 as revealed during a press conference in Lagos.

The Lagos City Marathon is one of the 88 certified races by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) out of over 500 races in the world. Recently, the IAAF also awarded the Lagos Marathon a “bronze label” as recognition of the standard of the race and this certification makes the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon the first full marathon in West Africa to get an IAAF label.

At the press conference, the Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission who also doubles as the Special Adviser on Sports to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state said:

”The Lagos state government will keep supporting any brand that celebrates and puts our beautiful city on the world map.” Adding that “the fact that Lagos marathon will serve as a qualifier for the commonwealth games shows that Lagos is getting it right.”

President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau also highlighted that that according to the IAAF, the Lagos marathon has one of the best routes in the world.

Asides the usual 42km race for professional athletes, Access bank has introduced a 10km family fun race to help Nigerian families exercise, keep fit and have fun on the said day; with an opportunity to win massive prizes.

The 2018 edition of the Lagos marathon will see the prize money for winners from Nigeria across all categories increase from N1m to N3m. Also, two new GAC motors will be up for grasp in the 10km family fun race.
