Pro-Wrestling League resumes January 2018

President of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Brijbhushan Sharan Singh said the third edition of the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) will commence in the first week of January next year.

The Pro Wrestling League made its debut in 2015 with 66 wrestlers from different countries of the world.

According to Brijbhushan, Greco-Roman grapplers in action for the first time, in addition to freestyle wrestling, when the season. “Greco Roman style of wrestling was introduced in first summer Olympics of 1896 and India has a rich past at the international level with first significant performance (gold medal) at 1962 Jakarta Asian Games.

He revealed that top Indian and international players are expected for the third edition also as it is expected to provide them good preparation for the Commonwealth and Asian Games.

In the first edition, Odunayo Adekuoroye was the only Africa appearing in the league. The Nigerian nicknamed ‘The dancing wrestler’ remains the only athlete to have lifted the trophy two consecutive times.
