Yeni Malatyaspor of Turkey midfielder Okechukwu Azubuike has wished his first professional football club, Niger Tornadoes success in their AITEO Cup final against Akwa United on Sunday.

Azubuike made his professional bow as a footballer with the Ikon Allah Boys in the 2011/12 season before making his mark with Bayelsa United a couple of seasons later. The former Olympic Eagles captain took to his Facebook page to convey his best wishes to his former team and coaches on Saturday morning.

Azubuike In his Tornadoes days

“And am wishing my first professional team (NIGER TORNADOES) and my coaches, Abubakar Bala and Atuga Ndanusa, the very best on your final game today (Aiteo FA cup) against Akwa utd. Go bring back the ?,” wrote the diminutive mifielder.

Tornadoes current head coach Abubakar Bala was Azubuike’s coach at the Minna Mock Nations Cup where the young midfielder was discovered by Tornadoes hence the mention in his post.

Azubuike currently plays in the Turkish top division, the Super Lig with Yeni Malatyaspor and has started all games for the newly promoted side till date.

He was however substituted just before half time in Yeni’s last game against Konyaspor due to a hamstring injury which has ruled him out of Sunday’s game at Fenerbahçe.

Azubuike is hopeful of a quick return to action and told www.aclsports.com his recovery has gone pretty faster that doctors anticipated.

“It (recovery) has been so far so good. I thank God I’ll be back faster than the Doctors’ estimated time to help the team,” he said.

Niger Tornadoes will be aiming to win the AITEO Cup for only the second time when they face Akwa United in Sunday’s final at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.
