Abia Angels head coach Ann Chiejine is not giving up on her team’s chances of reaching their first ever Cup final. Angels suffered a 2-0 loss to Ibom Angels on Wednesday, 48 hours after they were reinstated to the competition having successfully overturned the decision to expel them from the tournament due to alleged fielding of ineligible players.

“We have a young team. A bunch of young girls that started playing in the Premier League last season. Many people call us the underdogs so I’m happy with where we have reached even if we are eliminated at this stage,” Chiejine told www.aclsports.com on Thursday.

The second leg of their semifinal tie with Ibom Angels will hold on Saturday at the Umuahia Township Stadium and the hosts will be aiming to overturn the 2-0 deficit from the first leg on Wednesday.

“We have played the (first leg) match. We have seen our mistakes and where we have gone wrong. We have seen our opponents’ mistakes too so all we have to do is go back and do our homework and wait for them,” added the Super Falcons legend.

Winner of the all-Angels contest will face defending champions Rivers Angels in the final next Wednesday.

ACLSports on Thursday scooped that the Women’s Final of the AITEO Cup will now take place at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos on October 18, three days after the Men’s final in Lagos.

The Women’s final is expected to bring to a close the Nigerian football calendar for 2016/17 season ahead of the Annual General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Jos next Thursday.
