Versatile defender Benjamin Fredrick is expected to be out of the Super Eagles squad for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations following an injury in training at Belgium side FC Dender, www.aclsports.com reports.

The 20-year-old, who has been a revelation in the final round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, is now set to spend some time on the sidelines.

As first reported by Shina Okeleji, the Brentford loanee is expected to be out for about eight to 12 weeks, meaning he would not be ready for the continental showpiece in Morocco.

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has now reportedly moved swiftly to get a replacement for the youngster who has won the hearts of many fans with his breathtaking displays.

Fredrick, a former youth international, first played for the Super Eagles during the Unity Cup in London, before racking up consecutive appearances in the World Cup Qualifiers that ended in defeat to DR Congo  in Rabat last week.

Fredrick now joins other Super Eagles regulars like Victor Osimhen and Ola Aina who have been injured recently.
