The Director, Grassroots Sports Development, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ademola Are has expressed confidence that the country’s young talents would make Nigeria proud in the forthcoming Africa Youth Games.

Are made the statement in an exclusive interview with aclsports.com on Wednesday.

While speaking on the level of preparation of the team, he disclosed that trials have been conducted in the various sports and athletes who will represent the country in Algeria are already known.

“I can tell you confidently that we are going there to better our last outings,” he said.

The Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports official said, “We have athletes in five states scattered across the federation: Abuja, Bayelsa, Jos, Kaduna and Lagos. As at today, trials are already concluded and some of the athletes have been weeded out of the camp, while others are in.”

“It has been a good development for the country, we started camp very well and because we did well at the last African Youth Games where we came third, we decided to give more opportunities to more sports to be at the forth coming games in Algiers from 16th to 28th of July,” Are noted.

He stressed the ministry’s resolve to provide platforms to unearth hidden talents at the grassroots to represent Nigeria at Senior international tournaments.
