Real Madrid’s manager, Zinedine Zidane was a satisfied man, after his side survived a scare to dispatch ten-man Getafe ahead of their important second leg tie against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a landmark double, as the defending champions returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win at the Bernabeu.

It was Ronaldo’s 30th goal of the campaign, which means he’s now scored 30 or more goals in each of his nine seasons at the club.

Gareth Bale opened the scoring for Los Blancos on the 24th minute, before Ronaldo’s strike on the stroke of half time doubled their advantage at the break.

Getafe pulled one back, after the break, minutes after going down to ten men following a red card to Loic Remy, through Francisco Portillo, who scored from the spot.

However, Ronaldo scored his second of the evening to seal all three points for the champions.

It was the Portuguese’s second consecutive brace at home, after netting in that 4-0 demolition of Alaves before their shock defeat at Espanyol in midweek.

“I’m pleased with the result, the atmosphere and the team’s performance,” a visibly elated Zidane said after the match.

“The team looks better than it did four days ago, I’m sure of that. It was very important to put in a disciplined, all-round decent performance.

“All the players looked focused, and it’s great to go into Tuesday’s game off the back of a win,” he added.

The win changed nothing on the table, as far as position is concerned as Los Blancos remain third, 12points behind rivals and league leaders, Barcelona, who take on second-place Atletico Madrid later on Sunday.

Real switch attention to their CL clash with PSG on Tuesday, and will do so in very confident mood having returned to winning ways, and also the return of  Marcelo from injury.

Elsewhere in the league, Sevilla moved within five points of a place in the top four, after they defeated Athletic Bilbao 2-0, thanks to goals from Luis Muriel and Franco Vazquez.

Girona and Leganes both returned to winning ways after 2-0 wins against Villarreal and Malaga respectively.
