African champions, Nigeria Super Falcons defeated Tanzania 2-1 in their final WAFCON 2026 warm-up match, with Esther Okoronkwo scoring a late winner in Casablanca, www.aclsports.com reports.
Goals from captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo, either side of Tanzania’s equaliser, secured a 2-1 victory for Nigeria.
Head coach Justine Madugu started with Chiamaka Nnadozie in goal, while Tosin Demehin, Rofiat Imuran, Shukurat Oladipo and Sikiratu Isah formed the defence. Jennifer Echegini, Christy Ucheibe, Toni Payne, Rasheedat Ajibade, Rinsola Babajide and Asisat Oshoala completed the starting XI.
Ajibade opened the scoring in the 15th minute after being set up by Rinsola Babajide, giving Nigeria the lead. Tanzania responded in the 79th minute to level the scores, but the Super Falcons found a late winner through substitute Okoronkwo, who struck in the 89th minute after being assisted by Ajibade.
Glory Ogbonna, Folashade Ijamilusi, Uchenna Kanu, Michelle Alozie, Joy Omewa, Osinachi Ohale and Halimatu Ayinde also featured from the bench.
The new WAFCON jersey was also debuted in the friendly, with 10 stars on the shirt representing Nigeria’s record 10 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles. The defending champions will wear the jersey during the upcoming tournament.
Nigeria will begin their WAFCON 2026 title defence against tournament debutants Malawi on Tuesday, 28 July, at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat.
With their final warm-up match complete, the Super Falcons will now turn their attention to defending their continental crown as they seek a record-extending 11th WAFCON title and qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
