Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership champions Bayelsa Queens on Wednesday dismantled Beninese champions ESPOIR FC 6-0 to set up another Nigeria vs Ghana final in the UFOA B Women’s Champions League competition.
Ghanaian champions AMPEM FC had defeated hosts Africa Sports on penalties in the day’s first semi-final game before Bayelsa, coached by Domo Okara ran riot over their opponents in the evening game courtesy of five second half goals.
In the game decided at the Stade Yamoussoukro in Coted’voire, Bayelsa Queens got off to the best possible start when Chinyere Igboamalu curled home a free kick in the 3rd minute after Flourish Sabastine was brought down at the edge of the box.
There were no further goals in the first half but the Prosperity Girls quickly got for themselves an insurance goal four minutes after the restart when Kafayat Bashiru headed home another free kick by Blessing Onoriode.
It was through another free kick that Bayelsa made it 3-0 in the 52nd minute, this time, right back Glory Edet rifling into the roof of the net from 20 yards before Etim Edidiong netted from close range in the 64th team to score against her former club.
Igboamalu then got her brace in the 73rd minute when she poked home from close range, a brilliant low cross from the right by Edet before substitute Anjor Mary-Magdalene rounded off the scoring two minutes from time.
The result means Bayelsa Queens will now battle Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies in Saturday’s final to determine who represents West African Football Union (WAFU) B in this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League. The winner will advance to the tournament in Morocco.
It will be the second time in a row that clubs from Nigeria and Ghana will face in the final of the UFOA B Women’s Champions League after Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies beat Nigeria’s Rivers Angels in last year’s final.
