Peter Olayinka scored the only goal on Tuesday night as Slavia Prague played out a 1-1 draw against Inter Milan at the San Siro on matchday one of the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League season.

As matchday one enters day two, another set of Nigerians will file out on Wednesday night with the hope of emulating Olayinka and etching their names in UCL history.

Having scored once in four appearances for Brugge during the UCL qualifiers and with five goals contributed (four goals and one assist) so far in the league respectively, Bonaventure and Okereke will both look to lead their team to victory in front of their home fans.

Also while PSG and European powerhouse, Real Madrid both lock horns in Group A, a win for Club Brugge against Galatasaray tonight would put them in a good position ahead of the next UCL fixture.

Statistics

Club Brugge had the upper hand in this fixture the last time both teams met in the group stage. Brugge drew 0-0 in Turkey and won 3-1 at home.

In the last three home meetings with Turkish sides, Club Brugge has two wins and one draw.

Bryan Idowu, Lokomotiv Moscow

Having made three appearances this season for Lokomotiv Moscow, Super Eagles left back Bryan Idowu would be hoping for a fourth outing when his team travel to face German side, Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday night.

Also with Juventus and Atletico Madrid still to come in Group D, Idowu and his teammates will be looking for the best possible start to the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League season tonight.

Statistics

This will be both team’s first meeting in a UEFA competition.

Lokomotiv Moscow have lost their last seven fixtures against German teams while Bayer Leverkusen have W4, D4 and L3 in eleven meetings with Russian sides.

Iyayi Atiemwen, Dinamo Zagreb

Atiemwen is another relatively unknown Nigerian player who will be under the floodlights tonight against Atalanta as the Champions League anthem rings out.

Which one of these Nigerians will follow the footsteps of Olayinka tonight as matchday one of the 2019/2029 UCL season rounds up?
