The final round of games in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) group stage will feature Diego Simeone and his Atletico Madrid team as they try to avoid dropping into the Europa League when they face Lokomotiv Moscow at the majestic Wanda Metropolitano tonight.

Atletico are second in Group D with 7 points while Bayer Leverkusen are third with 6 points and will also look to move into second with a win at home to Juventus who have qualified with 13 points.

Lokomotiv Moscow sit pretty in fourth place and a win will not be enough to clinch a Europa League spot considering their poor heat to head with Leverkusen.

So, Atletico have their destiny in their hands as an outright win will secure their place in the next round. A draw would only be enough if Leverkusen fail to defeat Juventus.

What you need to know…

Atlético are unbeaten in their four previous games against Lokomotiv, including in the round of 16 in their victorious 2017/18 UEFA Europa League campaign.

Lokomotiv have won just once in their last 13 matches against Spanish opponents, home and away (D2, L10).

With the other teams big teams securing their passage into the next round, the only other mouthwatering fixture tonight will be Bayern Munich vs Tottenham Hotspurs at the Allianz Arena.

Having secured a place in the last 16 lat time out and with top place out of their reach, will Mourinho’s men look to avenge their 7-2 home loss earlier in the group stage or just approach the game like the formality that it is?
