Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, finished 5th in the men’s Shot Put final at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, recording a best throw of 21.52m to end just outside the podium, www.aclsports.com reports.

The national record-holder had earlier secured his place in the final with a throw of 20.83m in qualification, advancing to his third consecutive global final. In the medal showdown, he opened with 20.90m, fouled his second, and followed with 20.59m before finding his rhythm to reach 21.52m.

The gold medal went to Ryan Crouser of the USA with a season’s best of 22.34m. Mexico’s Uziel Muñoz claimed silver in a national record of 21.97m, while Italy’s Leonardo Fabbri took bronze at 21.94m. New Zealand’s Tom Walsh matched Fabbri’s distance but settled for fourth on countback, just ahead of Enekwechi.

Obiageri Amaechi opened Nigeria’s campaign in Tokyo, competing in Group A of the women’s Discus Throw. The 25-year-old started with 55.69m before recording 48.82m on her second attempt. Her best mark left her 16th in the group and 33rd overall, outside qualification for the final in her second World Championships appearance.
