Squash: Yemisi beats Herbst in Zimbabwe, male players shines too

Yemisi Olatunji powered into the Semifinals of the 2017 Safeguard Zimbabwe Squash Open with a straight set victory over Zimbabwe’s Shannon Herbst.

Nigeria number one won her opponent by 11-0, 11-2, 11-2 to set up with her unknown opponent.

She attributed her feat to those who believed in her ability to excel.

“I’ll work hard to bring home the Africa title”, she told ACLSports.

In the male category, Former Nigeria number one, Sadiq Taiwo beat Talent Mushunje of Zimbabwe 11-3, 17-15, 11-5 to qualify for the quarter finals.

Olanrewaju Abdulraman, who is a graduate of Linguistics from the University of Ilorin, is also through to the Quarter finals after seeing off Dexter Herbst of Zimbabwe by 11-4, 11-4, 11-3.

Oladunni Okikiola won her first match against Zimbabwe’s Nyarai Goba by 11-2, 11-2, 11-2 before losing to a more fit Yvonne Mabure of Zimbabwe by 3-11, 2-11, 0-11.

Okikiola will now play for ranking.

Busayo Olatunji will also play for ranking after losing to Polite Mabure of Zimbabwe by 8-11, 9-11, 10-12 in her second match.
