Nigeria National League (NNL) side Sporting Lagos have announced the end of their ownership stake in Danish club Aarhus Fremad, www.aclsports.com reports.

The Lagos-based club, through its owner, Shola Akinlade, acquired a majority ownership stake in March 2023 and, in a statement on Friday, confirmed that the ownership arrangement has now ended, while both parties will continue their relationship built over the period.

”In 2023, we announced an ownership stake in Aarhus Fremad with a mission to create a trusted pathway for our best talent from Nigeria to Europe,” said a statement on the club’s website.

”Over this time, we’ve built strong relationships across the football world through transfers, trials, and partnerships. What started as a single pathway has grown into multiple routes for our players, giving us greater flexibility and reach.

A Note From Us: Sporting Lagos x Aarhus Fremad

”Along the way, we’ve also learned something important: the greatest value and impact sit at the start of the journey, in the talent pipeline in Nigeria. In the past two years, two of our players represented Nigeria at the FIFA U20 World Cup. In 2025 alone, Mukhtar Adamu joined Odds BK, where he went on to win Young Player of the Year, and we completed four additional international transfers which we’ll announce in due course.

”We’ve genuinely enjoyed this partnership. From day one, Lars and the leadership team have been thoughtful, open, and deeply collaborative. Beyond the football, we’ve loved the warmth of the Aarhus community and the connection with the fans. It’s been special to see Sporting Lagos welcomed so openly, and to feel that sense of shared purpose on and off the pitch,” the statement concluded.

During that period of ownership, Aarhus Fremad, who had spent nearly two decades in the third division, secured promotion to the second tier. In addition, a couple of players like Segun Olalere and Christian Nwoke joined the club, while academy players – Abubakar Haruna and Solomon Adabo – were there for a training program in 2025.

Sporting Lagos have now chosen to redirect their energy toward making a greater impact in Nigerian football through talent identification and development.
