Super Eagles and Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has spoken about the need for his side to learn from their mistakes following the defeat to Bologna in the Serie A on Saturday, www.aclsports.com reports.
The 26-year-old, who was left on the bench in Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup playoff matches against Gabon and DR Congo, returned to action for his Serie A club. The visitors cruised to a 3-0 win courtesy of goals from Tommaso Pobega (brace) and a stoppage-time strike from Federico Bernadeschi, handing Udinese their fifth league defeat of the season.
Before the visitors ran out winners, Okoye stopped Riccardo Orsolini from twelve yards earlier in the game, and he was happy with the effort but not the overall outcome of the contest at the Bluenergy Stadium.
“I’m happy for the penalty save, but not for the match, which we had started well anyway,” Okoye said after the game. “That’s football: I saved a penalty, but then I made a mistake on the second goal.”
“We have to move on and analyse the good and the least good things we do today. Are we the worst defence? We risk often; this is our football. We win, but we also lose like this. We need to improve on defence. I have to improve first.
“Mistakes are part of the game, but we have to reduce them. It’s important to learn from these mistakes. In football, the most important thing is the result, but we also want to play well. We have to stick together and think about the next game,” the Super Eagles goalkeeper concluded.
After serving his suspension, Okoye has featured in six consecutive league matches and is determined to maintain his impressive performances as the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco draws closer next month.
