FC Barcelona defender Moussa Wagué has been slapped with a four-match suspension for hitting a fan who allegedly used racial slur on the player during a match.

The 20-year-old right-back, who is a Senegal international, explained his ‘violent’ reaction and apologised after the match between Barcelona B and Ejea.

The Catalan side says it will appeal the ban with arguments relating to the incident and the player’s apology which the referee did not include in his report, according to the club.

Wague’s compatriot Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli was given a two-match ban despite being subjected to racist monkey chants from Inter Milan fans during a match late month.

Wague became the youngest African goalscorer in the FIFA World Cup history when he found the back of the net against Japan at Russia 2018.
