The Nigeria Rugby League Association (NRLA) on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, to present its recent achievements and outline development plans for rugby league in Lagos, www.aclsports.com reports.
Chairman Abiodun Olawale Cole led the NRLA delegation, which included Vice Chairman Ade Adebisi, Director of Rugby League Nosakhare Agwoje, Head of PR Okeke Oluwaseyi Chika, and Enitan Obadina, representing Strategic Media Director Mozez Praiz.
Also present were players of the Nigeria women’s national rugby league team, led by captain Blessing Funmilayo Aladeyelu, along with eight teammates and head coach Samson Okeowo.
Among the achievements shared was the Nigeria women’s team, the Green Falcons, who achieved a historic 10–0 victory over Ireland at the 2025 World Series in Canada, a landmark result that took Nigeria to the final.
The NRLA submitted a bid to host the upcoming Middle East Africa (MEA) Championship in Lagos, a tournament featuring six women’s teams and four men’s teams. Discussions also focused on expanding rugby league in schools and universities, creating a structured national league with Lagos as a central hub, and enhancing coach education and youth development.
During the visit, the newly designed national team jersey was presented to Mr. Fatodu. Created by Nigerian-American designer Ugo Mozie, the jersey reflects cultural pride, creativity, and international appeal.
Mr. Fatodu commended the NRLA for its progress and assured the Lagos State Sports Commission’s support for initiatives that grow the sport and engage young athletes.
