Former Liverpool boss, Rafa Benitez is delighted to be the new manager of Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi and his English Premier League side, Everton.

The Toffees on Wednesday evening confirmed the appointment of the ex-Red Rafa Benitez as their new manager, bringing to an end the search for a worthy replacement for former boss Carlo Ancelotti, who left the club for Real Madrid.

“Everton Football Club can confirm the appointment of Rafael Benitez as the Club’s new manager,” the club said in a statement.

The 61-year-old Spaniard has put pen to paper on a three-year deal which will see him manage Super Eagles playmaker Alex Iwobi and his teammates until the summer of 2024.

Speaking on the move, the former Newcastle United coach said;

On his move to the blue side of Merseyside, the former Liverpool manager is delighted and determined to play a key role in the club’s ambitious dreams.

“I am delighted to be joining Everton. I have been greatly impressed by the ambition and their desire to bring success to this historic Club. I believe this is a Club that is going places. I’m determined to play a big part in helping this great Club achieve its ambitions.”

Speaking on behalf of the club,  Majority Shareholder, Farhad Moshiri added;

” Rafa impressed us greatly with his knowledge and experience but, above all, the passion and hunger he showed to join our Club.

We are appointing Rafa because we believe he will bring success to our Club and to Evertonians. To put it simply – we need to be competing at the top-end of the league and to be winning trophies,” he added.

Rafa will start work with Iwobi and his teammates when they return to the club for pre-season training from 5 July.
