President Federation Cup: Bendel Insurance, Enyimba, NPFL teams march on

Former champions Bendel Insurance and Enyimba advanced to the next round of the President’s Federation Cup on Wednesday, www.aclsports.com reports.

Round of 64 matches, which started on Tuesday, continued with most of the games being played across the nation on Wednesday. Bendel Insurance, winners of the cup in 2023, thumped Dandidi Babes 5-0 to reach the next round. Similarly, Enyimba also whitewashed El-Shama 5-0 at the Lafia Township Stadium. Ekene Awazie (brace), Mujeeb Odufeso, and Chidiebere Nnachi (brace) scored in the one-sided encounter.

In Abuja, Rivers United edged Barau FC 2-1 to reach the next round, while 2017 winners Akwa United also beat Kebbi United by the same scoreline. Another NPFL side Sunshine Stars also beat Bako FC 2-0 to secure their place in the next round of the competition. Similarly, Lobi Stars claimed a 2-0 win over Discovery Talent to progress.

Meanwhile, Wikki Tourists piped Edel 1-0 in an NNL-club affair. Defending NNL champions Beyond Limits also beat Crusaders 4-1 in Benin to march on in the competition. Lagos champions Inter Lagos thumped Harmony FA 5-0 in Ilorin, while Crown FC came from a goal down to wallop NOSMAS FC 7-1 in Ile Ogbo with Hassan Ibitoye grabbing a hat-trick in the game. Osun United also beat FWC 2-1.

Katsina United edged Green Beret 1-0 at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, FC Basira breezed past Atlantic FA 5-0, and former finalists Nasarawa United beat Flight FC 2-0. Leonard Ugochukwu and Kabir Balogun with the goals for the Solid Miners. Defending champions Elkanemi Warriors also edged Simon Ben FC 3-2 in a tight affair to march on.

Matches involving Shooting Stars and Bayelsa were not played after their opponents EFCC and Zamfara United failed to show up. The two NPFL teams have now moved into the next round without kicking a ball.

Earlier on Tuesday, Rangers beat Kano Pillars 1-0 in the match of the round. Chidozie Okorie’s goal just after the hour mark decided the contest in Abuja. Meanwhile, Solution FC beat Eagle Stars 2-0, and Gombe United also defeated Assemblies of God FC 3-0 to reach the next round.

Round of 32 matches are billed to hold April 2.
