Super Eagles of Nigeria defender Leon Balogun has joined up with his new club – Brighton and Hove Albion, where he will be starting out a new journey in his career.

In an interview with his new club the former Mainz 05 player reflected on a memorable World Cup in which he participated with the Nigerian Super Eagles and was a main stay in defence.

The Super Eagle were knocked out in the group stage following a late and heartbreaking goal from Marcos Rojo to dent Nigeria’s qualification hopes. “It’s been an exciting journey and the experience is something I will always be grateful for,” Balogun said in an interview with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Adding that “I still think about the last-minute defeat to Argentina and it does hurt a little bit, but life goes on and I’m happy to be here now with that experience on my side.”

Balogun then talked about his new adventure with Brighton in the English Premier League. With an away match to Watford on the opening weekend of the EPL on the horizon Leon said: “The league starts very soon and between now and then it’s about getting up to speed with everyone else as soon as possible.

“Then I want to take it from there, but I’ll give everything I can to improve what this group already has and play the biggest role that I can for the team.”

“It’s my first day and I’ve just finished – I was really warmly received and it’s a nice group. My first impressions were very positive, and I feel very comfortable within the group – they all made me feel welcome.”

The 2018/2019 season begins few weeks from now and it remains to be seen if Leon Balogun will be deployed in defence to make his first appearance for his new club against Watford or if his debut will be delayed a little to get him in top shape. Whatever the case maybe, we wish the Super Eagle a successful and fun time in England and we (ACLSports) will be watching.
