Manchester United fans are in celebratory mood after the club announced that Anthony Martial has extended his stay at the club on Thursday.

Martial put pen to paper on a new five-year contract that will see him stay at Old Trafford until the summer of 2024.

“United is delighted to announce that Anthony Martial has signed a new contract, which will keep him at the club until June 2024,” the club said on their official website.

The new deal also includes an option that will see both parties extend for a further year, the club also confirmed.

For his manager, Olé Gunnar Solskjaer, United remains the perfect place for the Frenchman to continue his football education.

“Anthony is one of those naturally gifted players that any coach would love to work with,” Solskjaer said.

“He has a good footballing brain which, when coupled with his exceptional talent, makes for a player with an exciting future ahead of him. This is the perfect club for Anthony to progress his development as a top-class forward,” he added.

With the report of Martial putting pen to paper getting out, United fans took to their respective social media accounts to express their happiness.

They have the 23-year-old for another five years and could not hide their joy.  Here are some of the best reactions.

Martial joined the club from Ligue 1 side, AS Monaco, on deadline day back in the summer of 2016, and has gone on to score 46goals in all competitions for the Red Devils in that time.

However, under the club’s former manager, José Mourinho, who was sacked in December 2018, Martial’s future at the club looked anything but clear with rumours that Mourinho wanted to swap him for Brazilian forward, Willian Borges at Chelsea.

Therefore, for this set of fans, had Mourinho stayed on as United manager, then, Martial would have left the club.

Martial wouldn't have renewed with Mourinho here. This is huge. Hopefully he fulfils his potential here with the club.

Martial was going to sign with Jose gone, don't understand the fuss.

Martial’s current contract was expected to expire at the end of the current campaign before the club activated the one-year extension clause last November.

“I am loving my time at this club,” Martial said. “From the day I joined, I have been made to feel part of the United family.”

With all the love he has received from the club, Martial added that he has been ‘amazed’ by the support the fans have shown him.

“I have been incredibly humbled and overwhelmed by the warmth and love of our fans, who continue to amaze me with their support,” he added.
