Queen Uboh-Idris was reported to have resigned as President of Nigeria Para Powerlifting Federation (NPPF) on Friday night.

Uboh resigned following the completion of the World Para Powerlifting Cup which serves as Tokyo 2020 Paralympic qualifiers.

Meanwhile, www.aclsports.com gathered that 11 board members suspended the President after an emergency board meeting held on Saturday morning at the media centre of Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The statement obtained by www.aclsports.com revealed that the President refused, failed and/or neglected to give details of the processes for the hosting of the World Cup including finances that have been contributed by individuals, private organizations and her Excellency, Aisha Buhari.

It read that in the past that the President, Queen Uboh-Idris contravened the provisions of the Code as it relates to exercise of the functions bestowed on her by the Code.

It said, “The National Sports Federations Code of Governance, 2017 provides for the various positions to with; President, Vice President and other members of the Executive Board in Arts 4.1; 4.2; 4.3; 4.4; 4.5; and 4.6, with powers and functions of the Federation.

“It was observed in the past that the President Mrs. Queen Uboh Idris has contravened the provisions of the Code as it relates to exercise of the functions bestowed on her by the Code.

“A disciplinary committee has been constituted in line with Art. 5.3, (ii) Code to investigate the allegations leveled against the President with the mandate of reporting to the Executive Board within seven (7) days. Within the period of investigation, the President remains suspended”.

The statement noted that several letters has been written to the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports complaining of handedness by the President.

It said, “Concerned/other Ex-Board Member wrote series of letters to the Federal Ministry of Youth & Sports, complaining of her high handedness as the Honourable Minister, Sunday Dare called for a meeting with the President of the Federation and all other members of the Executive Board to resolve the lingering crisis and chart a way forward for the development of the game.

“The meeting which was held on 29th November, 2019 in the Minister’s Conference Room at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja was to resolved the impasse, but unfortunately, the President continue to carry out the infractions complained about by the other members even after the meeting, as she said she has a flight to catch back to Lagos and worked out of the Executive Board Members and other ministry staff present”.

It further said, “On discovering that the President of the Federation had engaged the services of a consultant to bid for the Para Powerlifting World Cup, Abuja 2020 “Road to Tokyo”, the knowledge of the other Executive Board Members, NPC, Nigeria, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, and more so that her Excellency, Aisha Buhari gave her consent to the hosting of the World Cup, in view of her passion for people with disabilities and the less privilege, under her project, “Future Assured”.

“The permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Gabriel Aduda called for a meeting with the President of the Federation and other Executive Board Members and in that meeting inaugurated A Ministerial Implementation Committee for the Abuja 2020 Para Powerlifting World Cup, and urged the members to work together for a seamless hosting of the tournament.

“Again the President in her usual attitude refused, failed and/or neglected to give details of the processes for the hosting of the tournament including finances that have been contributed by individuals, private organizations and her Excellency, Aisha Buhari.

“Furthermore, on 1st February, 2020, the concerned Executive Board Members officially wrote to the President detailing the various infractions and giving her three (3) days within which to respond to the said allegations or the provisions of the Code in Arts 5.1 and 5.3 will be invoked.

“Up to the time of this meeting no response has been received and no explanation has either been received from her to justify her act with ample opportunities given in this regard”.
