Current African champion, Innocent Nnamdi (72kg) has promised not to let his fans and supporters down at the International Para Powerlifting Championships in Lagos.

Nnamdi who defended his national title at the last National Sports Festival in Abuja told www.aclsports.com that the coaches did excellent job during the closed camping.

The Paralympics Bronze medallist said, “I want to thank my fans and supporters for their prayer and I promise not to let them down.

“I am very prepared and ready for this championship. We have been in closed camping immediately after the New Year, there was no rest for us and our coaches have done excellent job; I must tell you”

“I was the defending champion in my weight category for last National Sports Festival, so I had no choice than to work harder to maintain my position as the reigning national champion”, he added.

He said the thought of his village people towards him gave him the motivation to become a Para Powerlifter.

Nnamdi who hails from Owerri Local Government Area of Imo state said, “My motivation was my determination to succeed because as physically challenged individual and an orphan many people in my village thought I was going to end up as a beggar. I told myself that I must do everything in my power to make sure I become somebody in life”.

Explaining how he bounced back from his illness, Nnamdi said, “After the Paralympic Games in Rio Brazil where I won bronze medal, I came back and commence training in 2016. Unfortunately, I fell sick prior to Mexico world championship which affected my performance.

“By the grace of God, I bounced back and won gold at 2018 African Championships in Algeria championship.  As long as this championship is concerned, no athlete can stop me from winning the gold because I am 100% ready to win this Championship”.
