The head coach of Bayelsa handball team, Opuene Yekorogha told www.aclsports.com that the U18 National handball trophy is coming to Bayelsa state.

Bayelsa beat Ekiti 33 to 19 goals in the semifinal to qualify for the final of the 2021 National U18/21 Handball Championship in Lagos.

Yekorogha commended Governor Duoye Diri for his passion and zeal for focusing on youth and sports development of in the state.

He said, “I came with a game plan and it is to leave Lagos with the handball U18 national trophy. My players are young, energetic and determined to win the national championship. We won all our group stage matches against Gboko Volunteers, Oyo and Kogi; this means that we are meeting a familiar opponent and by the grace of God, all will go as planned.

“We borrowed funds to attend the National Championship and this is why the players are putting in their best in order for us to justify these funds. I want to commend the Governor for his love for sports in the state and I am optimistic that handball will benefit from the kind gesture of Senator Duoye Diri.

The Ex International revealed that handball in Bayelsa state will witness a turnaround if the association is properly funded.
