Nigeria’s Udodi Onwuzurike finished third in the men’s 200m at the Brussels Diamond League on Friday night with a time of 20.29s, www.aclsports.com reports.

Onwuzurike clocked 20.29s to secure the podium spot behind Dominican Republic’s Alexander Ogando (20.16s) and USA’s Gregory Robert (20.19s). USA’s Christian Coleman finished 4th in 20.42s, while Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba (20.57s) and Liberia’s Joseph Fahnbulleh (20.58s) came 5th and 6th respectively.

In the women’s 100m, Favour Ofili held her own in a star-studded field, crossing the line in 5th place with a time of 11.19s. The race was won by American Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, who extended her unbeaten run with a blazing 10.76s. Her compatriot Sha’Carri Richardson (11.08s) finished 2nd while Britain’s Daryll Neita (11.15s) took 3rd.

Veteran Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce came 4th in 11.17s, just ahead of Ofili.

With Ofili’s top-five finish and Onwuzurike’s podium place, Nigeria’s athletes will be looking forward and working towards the World Championships in Tokyo next month.
