National 130kg Greco-Roman Champion, Augustine Okuro has assured that the Greco-Roman wrestlers will not disappoint Nigerians at the 13th African Games in Ghana, www.aclsports.com reports.

Okuro revealed that the Greco-Roman team are mentally fit adding that the coaches have been able to impact innovation through their UWW coaching course held last year and handled by former US Greco-Roman coach, Zac Dominguez.

He said, “I strongly believe that the Greco-Roman wrestling team can make a big statement in this year’s All African Games, because our coaches are doing an excellent job with our training.

“The President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali and his whole team have been so supportive in every area both theoretically and practically”.

“We are well prepared physically and mentally to bring honour to our country”, he told www.aclsports.com

He said, “Being selected to represent Nigeria is no easy feat, so, it brings a sense of pride and at the same time great responsibility for me and all my teammates who have been selected to go and wrestle in the Greco-Roman style”.

Okuro said he stands a chance of winning a medal for Nigeria at the African Games.

He said, “A podium finish is no small feat for any athlete (wrestler). I believe God will leave us all smiling at the end of the Games”.

The African Games is scheduled for Accra, Ghana from 8th to 24th March 2024 while the first 2024 African Olympic Wrestling Qualifiers runs from 12th to 20th March, in Alexander, Egypt.
