NWFL 2020/2021 season gets December kick-off date

The 2020/2021 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership season is set to kick-off on the 9th of December, 2020 in what will be a straight league of thirty weeks subject to approval by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

This was made public on Wednesday during a live press conference in Abuja by the Chairperson of the League, Mrs Aisha Falode.

She noted that “before the commencement of the NWFL Premiership, clubs are expected to meet all guidelines in terms to the COVID-19 protocols, players licensing, DTMS, Medicals and Insurance.

In addition to that “inspection of facilities submitted by the teams will be part of the activities to be embarked on by the NWFL and if teams do not have acceptable pitches, they will be advised to get good ones, if not a decision will be taken swiftly.”

Following the lifting of the ban on contact sports by the government and Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, the women’s league is expected to return without any delay in preparation for the 2021 CAF Women’s Champions League.

With week one fixtures confirmed, atleast sixteen teams are expected to take part in the new season.

Defending champions Rivers Angels will travel to Adamawa Queens in the opening round while the Nasarawa Amazons vs FC Robo Queens fixture at the Lafia Township Stadium has been earmarked as the season’s opener.
