Recalled Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was in superlative form on Saturday afternoon when his team Chippa United drew 1-1 at Golden Arrows in a Premier Soccer League game.

Akpeyi was starting a third league game in a row since recovering from the injury that ruled him out of Nigeria’s last game against Cameroon.

After going in front early in the second half, Chippa were pegged on the back foot by their host but needed Akpeyi to pull off several impressive saves to keep his side in the game.

Knot Mutizwa pulled the hosts level on 68 minutes but Akpeyi smothered a number of shots on goal from Magubane, Mahachi and Mutizwa to deny the unbeaten Arrows victory.

In another of Saturday’s league action, Cape Town City secured a derby 2-0 victory over local rivals Ajax Cape Town.

Nigerian striker Victor Obinna Nsofor started in front for Benni McCarthy’s men and gave his side a first half lead when he bundled the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net.

The former Chievo and West Ham striker who joined Cape Town City earlier this month was however replaced at half time before his team sealed victory in the second half.
