Kwara United have announced the appointment of Kabiru Dogo as the club’s new head coach, aclsports.com reports.

Dogo is replacing Abdulazeez Mohammed, who resigned from his position few moments earlier on Saturday, after the club’s 2-0 defeat to hosts Nasarawa United in Jos. It was the Harmony Boys’ fourth defeat of the season.

According to a statement by the club, Dogo’s appointment is with immediate effect.

Dogo’s return to the club was announced shortly after Mohammed’s resignation after their Match Day 7 fixture of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) against the Solid Miners.

The former Nasarawa United gaffer also just resigned as the handler of Wikki Tourists of Bauchi – another NPFL side – after failing to lead the side to a win in their opening five games of the new season.

The club’s Chairman, Kumbi Titiloye, said it was necessary to name another coach, since “allowing a vacuum will not augur well for the club at this crucial moment”.

“We have accepted his (Mohammed’s) resignation, as he has accepted full responsibility for the club’s poor run.

“We cannot continue like this, in spite of the commitment of the government, the management and other stakeholders,” he said.

Mohammed was in charge of Kwara United in the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup competition before they were knocked out in the second qualifying  round by RS Berkane.

After seven league games, Kwara United have a solitary win and are just a point above the bottom two in group A.

Meanwhile, Dogo’s first game in charge will be a clash with Remo Stars at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Wednesday.
