Enyimba’s rising star, Ifeanyi Ihemekwele, has stated the readiness of the side to compete for the Nigeria Premier Football League title with the second stanza of the 2024/25 season on the horizon, www.aclsports.com reports.

With seven goals to his name this season — four in the CAFCC and three in the NPFL — Ihemekwele is determined to elevate his game as the People’s Elephant look to reclaim domestic dominance. The striker believes the team’s disappointing continental run has fueled a renewed hunger for success.

“For the league’s second stanza, we are coming back stronger. Trust me, it’s going to be tough for every team that will face us. The new technical crew has brought fresh ideas, and we’ve made significant adjustments to our game. We’re ready to redeem ourselves,” he told Enyimba media.

Enyimba’s immediate task is a rescheduled Matchday 14 clash against Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Thursday. Ihemekwele, whose level has gone up in recent weeks, emphasized the team’s readiness for the encounter.

“Our game in Cairo showed that we can compete at the highest level. We’re fully prepared for the outstanding matches, starting with Kano Pillars. It’s a chance to prove that Enyimba is still the team to beat,” the former Ijebu United striker stated.

Following Thursday’s clash in Kano, Enyimba will travel to Ilorin for another rescheduled fixture against Kwara United on Monday. The nine-time league champions are currently 7th on the log with 27 points – nine points adrift of current leaders Remo Stars.
