Nigerian players abroad, led by Paul Onuachu, once again excelled for their respective clubs over the weekend, as midfielder Ibrahim Olawoyin was also involved for his side in an important win, www.aclsports.com reports.
Paul Onuachu continued from where he left off last week as he scored again in Trabzonspor’s 3-1 win over Fatih Karagümrük on Friday. The lanky forward opened the scoring in the 20th minute before compatriot Chibuike Nwaiwu scored a quick-fire brace in the second half for his first set of goals for the Turkish giants. Most importantly, Onuachu assisted the Enyimba man for his second goal.
Turkish Lig Leaders Galatasaray also cruised past Alanyaspor 3-1 to maintain their lead at the top of the pile. Forward Victor Osimhen scored and made an assist in the game to steer his side to another comfortable win at home.
Also in the Turkish Super Lig, Ibrahim Olawoyin provided an assist as Rizespor thumped Kasımpaşa 3-0 for another win that takes them closer to safety. Halil Dervisoglu, Valentine Mihaila, and Adedire Mebude (assist provided by Olawoyin) scored the goals.
Striker Terem Moffi opened his goal account in Porto’s 3-1 win over Arouca on Friday. Oskar Pietuszewski and William Gomes scored the first two goals for the hosts before Moffi grabbed his maiden goal since leaving Nice for Porto in stoppage time. Defender Zaidu Sanusi also featured for Porto.
In the Premier League, Alex Iwobi played a key role in helping his side, Fulham, beat Tottenham 2-1 on Sunday. For the third consecutive week, the former Arsenal midfielder was involved in the goal for the Cottagers. Iwobi played a one-two with Harry Wilson before firing in off the post to double his side’s lead. Compatriots Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze also feature in the game.
In the English Championship, Frank Onyeka continued his strong run of form for Coventry City as they defeated Stoke City 2-1 to move eight points clear at the top of the log. Tochukwu Nnadi, who moved to Marseille, eventually made his debut at the weekend. OM secured a 3-2 win over Lyon in the fight for the European places.
Ademola Lookman played just the opening 45 minutes in Atletico Madrid’s narrow 1-0 win over Real Oviedo, while Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke both featured as Sevilla came from two goals behind to earn a draw away at Real Betis.
