Nigerian players abroad, led by Kelechi Iheanacho, continued their fine run of performances on Sunday, as the former Leicester City man grabbed an assist, while Ibrahim Olawoyin opened his goal account for the season, www.aclsports.com reports.
Following an eventful Saturday, other Super Eagles players took to the pitch to deliver some strong performances for their respective club sides in Europe.
Kelechi Iheanacho, who scored a winning penalty on his debut, was handed a starting berth in Celtic’s starting XI for their Scottish League Cup tie away at Partick Thistle on Sunday. He featured for 59 minutes and provided an assist in the 4-0 win.
In Turkey, midfielder Ibrahim Olawoyin delivered a man-of-the-match performance in his Rizespor’s 1-1 draw with Kocaelispor on Sunday. The former Abia Warriors man scored his side’s goal to open his account for the season. He has started all five Turkish Super Lig games for the Hawks this season.
CAF Footballer of the Year, Ademola Lookman, returned to action for Atalanta in their 3-0 win at Torino. He only came on in the 87th minute for Ghanaian attacker Kamaldeen Sulemana, who scored one of the goals in the comfortable win. Meanwhile, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru (Lazio) could only feature for 14 minutes in the Rome Derby against AS Roma before he was replaced by Reda Belahyane, after picking up an apparent injury.
Moses Simon (Paris FC) was unable to add to his season tally as his side lost 3-2 to Strasbourg at home. The former Nantes man, who had four shots in the game, was replaced in the 69th minute by Nouha Dicko. The latter went ahead to score one and assist the second in the defeat. Simon has two goals and one assist in five Ligue 1 games this season so far.
After grabbing a Champions League goal some days ago, Raphael Onyedika featured for the entire duration of Club Brugge’s comfortable 2-0 win over St. Truiden on Sunday. In Greece, Cyriel Dessers (Panathinaikos) scored once again in his side’s 1-1 draw with Olympiakos in the Greek Super League. Bruno Onyemaechi was an unused substitute for Olympiacos.
