The head coach of Nigeria men’s handball team, Rafiu Salami has expressed confidence in the ability of the men’s team to spring surprises at the 13th African Games in Ghana, www.aclsports.com reports.

A total of 26 men’s senior players have begun intensive camping in Lagos ahead of the 13th Africa Games which will be held in Ghana from 8th to 23rd March, 2024.

Salami told www.aclsports.com that the players have to maintain the momentum gathered at the last Nations Cup in the forthcoming African Games.

The ex-international said, “The African Games is a different ball game from the African Nations Cup. If we keep the same dynamic at the African Nations Cup where we won the president cup, we might get something. I am not promising anything but I know the players are going to do their best and if their best is good enough, the country will win a medal.

“I am confident if the team works together and have a long time to stay together, they will spring up surprises. The handball team is in trouble because we have set a high tempo and we must sustain it. I have told the boys not to be carried away with the President Cup; our aim is to be amongst the Top 6 teams in Africa”.

Nigeria men’s team won the President’s Cup at the 2024 Africa Men’s Handball Nations Cup in Egypt.
