Nigeria Armed Forces Taekwondo athletes secured 11 medals, including an impressive 9 golds, 1 silver, and 1 bronze at the ongoing African Military Games 2024 in Abuja on Friday, www.aclsports.com reports.

Mohammed Yusuf (Nigeria) led the charge, competing in the Men’s 54kg category. He delivered a dominant performance, earning a well-deserved gold medal against Amine Mohammed (Tunisia) and setting a strong tone for the rest of the day at the Velodrome in Package A of the Moshood Abiola stadium.

Nigeria’s Rejoice Bisallah earned a gold medal in the women’s -46kg due to no other athletes competing in her weight class. Similarly, Chinenye Ibeh, in the women’s -49kg category, won gold after competing without opposition in her weight division, further adding to Nigeria’s growing medal tally.

Glory Anam continued the gold rush, capturing the top spot in the women’s -53kg category with a striking display of skill and technique against Kenne Goudm (Cameroon).

The competition intensified in the men’s -58kg division, where Nigeria’s Daniel Alexander delivered a valiant effort, but ultimately had to settle for the silver medal against Saidi Atui (Algeria).

Nigeria’s next medal came from Alassa Aminu, who earned a bronze in the men’s -63kg category, rounding out the country’s successes in the weight divisions.

Nigeria athletes also dominated the Poomsae events, showcasing their technical abilities in the traditional patterns of Taekwondo.

In the individual events, Ditu Walton took gold in the Male Individual Poomsae, while Chinenye Ibeh triumphed in the Female Individual Poomsae.

In the Pair Poomsae, Walton and Ibeh combined their talents to secure another gold, cementing their place as the competition’s most formidable duo. Meanwhile, in the Male Team Poomsae, Ditu Walton, Moses Komolafe, and Afam Enumah exhibited flawless synchronization to win gold, showcasing the power of teamwork and collective focus.

Enomfon James, Ikor James, and Nancy Ibeh delivered a commanding performance in the Female Team Poomsae, earning their own gold medal and ensuring a sweep of the Poomsae events for Nigeria.

The Technical Director of Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, John Victor told www.aclsports.com that the Taekwondo events would conclude on Sunday, with the potential for Nigeria to claim more gold medals.

He remarked, “The Taekwondo event is still open until Sunday, and Nigeria can still increase its medal tally by winning more gold medals.”
