Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu missed out on the 2025 CAF Women’s Coach of the Year award, with Morocco’s Lamia Boumehdi claiming the honour, www.aclsports.com reports.

The announcement was made on Thursday in Rabat, Morocco, before the draw for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), after it was not announced at last year’s CAF Awards due to the Women’s football calendar still being ongoing with the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Madugu’s omission comes as a surprise to many, given the remarkable year he had with the Super Falcons. Under his guidance, Nigeria reclaimed continental supremacy, completing an unbeaten campaign at the 2024 WAFCON. The team famously came from two goals down to defeat hosts Morocco in the final, securing a record-extending 10th continental title.

Nigeria conceded just three goals while scoring 14, with Madugu earning the Best Coach of the Tournament award. His work also gained global recognition, as he became the first Nigerian coach to be nominated for the Women’s Coach of the Year at the 2025 Ballon d’Or.

Lamia Boumehdi, the 2025 winner, achieved back-to-back success after winning the 2024 award for guiding TP Mazembe Women to victory in the CAF Women’s Champions League, although the team finished third in the 2025 edition.

Madugu and Morocco women’s national team coach Jorge Vilda finished behind Boumehdi in the final shortlist.
