National champions, Aderonke Ogunsanwo and Joseph Omu won gold at the just concluded National Karate Championships held in Lafia, Nasarawa state.

According to information obtained from the secretariat of the Karate Federation of Nigeria, gold medallists at the championships have qualified to represent Nigeria at the 2019 All Africa Games in Morocco.

Reigning champion, Joseph Omu (-87kg) told www.aclsports.com that his target is to better his record at the 2019 All African Games in Morocco.

Omu said, “I am excited winning my ninth national title and have bettered my defence. The most important thing on my mind currently is winning gold at the 2019 All African Games in Morocco. I know it will not be easy due to zero training tours but with God, all things are possible”.

Also speaking, Aderonke Ogunsanwo said it feels good retaining her national title.

Ogunsanwo said, “When I lost at the 2018 Zainab Saleh Championships, I felt bad because I wanted to remain unbeaten till I retire.

“Returning to winning ways feels great; I want to fly the nation’s flag high at the All African Games and do my best by standing on the podium”, she said.
